Spanny commenced his career at Highveld Steel & Vanadium Corporation in 1980 as a student engineer.

He developed and trained through the Bursar Engineering Training Scheme. He obtained his Government Certificate of Competency in Engineering in 1992.

Spanny went through the Management Development Programme offered by the Graduate Business School of Leadership at UNISA.

Spanny was appointed as Engineering Manager of various divisions of Highveld Steel & Vanadium where he obtained a large amount of experience in all fields of engineering.

He was appointed as Manager of the Structural long products operations in 1996 where he was responsible for the efficient management of the engineering projects and maintenance as well as the operations of the plants.

He was appointed as Works Manager and member of the group executive of Highveld Steel & Vanadium in 2002.

Spanny was the founding member of SM Industrial Consultants in 2009 and has carried out consultancy work helping various companies around the country to maximize productivity, maximize efficiency in maintenance programmes, impose of flatter and efficient management structures, amongst many other projects.

Qualifications and experience include the following:

  • Draughtsman
  • MDP Unisa

 

 
Delby Butana Matlala

Delby Butana Matlala is a loyal competent individual with great entrepreneurial skills, leadership, teamwork, and business ethics. After completing his secondary education in Senzangakhona, he studied Electrical Engineering at Nkangala FET College.

The nature of technical support (modules) has prepared him to build a foundation entry into the field of computer sciences and Information Technology, specifically in to the field of System Support.

 

During 2015 to 2016 he worked as an (IT: End User Computing) facilitator at Computer Science College of Southern Africa in Mpumalanga.

Delby decided that a change was necessary and applied for a job at SM Industrial Consultants as a trainee representative where he was employed. He learnt about business ethics, management, finance and to work with people of all different ethnic groups.

JM (Spanny) Garcia Menendez, saw potential in Delby and became his mentor.

Delby’s willingness to learn together with his entrepreneur dream teamed him up with Spanny and together they decided to join forces and start SM Industrial Supplies (PTY) Ltd as youth black owned company (BBBEE Level 2).
